AcuDetox is a specialized acupuncture treatment designed to ease withdrawal symptoms during recovery. This technique uses thin needles inserted into specific points in the ear, aiming to restore the flow of life energy, or “qi,” which can help alleviate various health issues.
Origins of AcuDetox:
Developed by Dr. Michael Smith in 1974 and formalized by the National Acupuncture Detoxification Association (NADA) in 1985, AcuDetox utilizes a five-point auricular acupuncture model. Each point addresses key body functions:
Needles are left in place for a period of 15 minutes up to an hour while patients relax. AcuDetox can be administered individually or in groups.
Benefits:
When combined with traditional withdrawal management, AcuDetox offers several benefits, including:
It also supports those with co-occurring conditions like anxiety, PTSD, and ADHD by promoting calmness and reducing symptoms like hyperactivity and mood swings.
Eligibility:
AcuDetox may not be suitable for everyone. Those on blood thinners, with bleeding disorders, pacemakers, or who are pregnant should consult a healthcare professional.
Complementary Treatments:
AcuDetox works well alongside other recovery methods, such as Medication Supported Recovery (MSR), yoga, massage, and meditation.
Practitioner:
Marcella Kroll is a certified Auricular Acu-Technician through POCA (People’s Organization of Community Acupuncture).
